An Amazing Journey

02/11/2001

An Amazing Journey

My strength at last has been put to the test
I hover here between life and death
And I want you all to understand
If it's at all possible I will let you know
The place I am now and where I'll go

Spirals of time spin out patterns of thought
Encased in a web as if they'd been caught
Forever moving upwards a glittering display
So beautiful to see I am quite amazed
Some are shimmering, spinning and others are ablaze

To the visions dancing in my mind
Beckoning smoky wisps reach out and I find
So much love washing over my psyche
Come with us for now you are free
Is the message infused with the inner me

All the while casting a silhouette
Shapes and shadows dance around my feet
Some things of substance but not like me
I hear soothing voices all around
A tantalizing, teasing, melodic sound

I now walk away into the places you didn't know
I feel rather warm and my body's aglow
How excited I feel and soon I'll know all
Something wondrous is happening to me
While I still reside in my earthbound body

Magic seems to now be on my fingertips
An ethereal voice emanates from my lips
My eyes though closed sees into the future far
And now I've found the answer but that I cannot show
Although it is some of which we've always known

A whole other place, a journey full of beautiful imagery and fantastic sights!!

This second stanza is my favorite:

Spirals of time spin out patterns of thought
Encased in a web as if they'd been caught
Forever moving upwards a glittering display
So beautiful to see I am quite amazed
Some are shimmering, spinning and others are ablaze

I love the way this is worded... great work, Janine! A neat read~

Wonderful poem, Janine. It really brings a sense of wonder & hope, in a strange way it's like a sort of homecoming. I like this part the best:

Magic seems to now be on my fingertips
An ethereal voice emanates from my lips
My eyes though closed sees into the future far
And now I've found the answer but that I cannot show
Although it is some of which we've always known

It seems to me if we look inside deep enough, we somehow KNOW things, like what's really right and what we should do....and this brushes up against that really well. Excellent writing!

A Mirage In The Distance

6/5/2001 5:57:15 PM

Knowing you're there for me
when I've had a tiring day
is enough to keep me from going astray
like a mirage in the distance
to a thirsty woman.

To have you listening to me
when I whinge and moan
and I'm not being very nice
is like a mirage in the distance
to my troubled psyche.

To feel your arms hold me
when I can't go on any more
makes me feel secure and warm
like a mirage in the distance
to a weary traveller.

To know that you love me
when I'm feeling old and sad
is a balm to me
like a mirage in the distance
to a lost soul.

Nobody knows what it is
I can keep a secret well

No secret from me you'll wring

And bribery won't do a thing
I can't give you even one clue
I'll tell nobody you see
I only heard it today

A Gift of Words

11/9/2000 10:03:51 AM

When I create a story I paint it with words
A colorful injection of nouns and verbs
But it's not until I start to write
Whether it be with pen or electric type
The tale unfolds with a life of it's own
And even to me the plot's unknown
Excitement prevails
My creative juices flow
From out of the depths of my mind
The literary winds blow
A birth of a new born
The first step with one word
Adolescent growing pains
Scrambling eagerly to be heard
Words are a gift of imagination's jubilee
Writing embossed for all eternity

A Flight of Fantasy

7/13/2000 2:11:03 PM

One night while I was walking,
I stepped around a tree,
I saw a young centaur dancing,
She was very close to me.

Silently I held my breath,
I didn't want to scare her at play,
She pranced with the night moths,
Didn't see me or run away.

I stepped on a twig and it crackled,
She looked up at me with a start,
I held my breath and tried to stop,
The pounding of my heart.

She neighed and stepped towards me,
Held out her hand and smiled,
"Come dance with me", she beckoned,
"I'd love to", was my reply.

Together we played, laughed and sang,
Until all the stars faded from the sky,
"I have to go!", we said in unison,
Laughed, hugged and waved good-bye.

A Dark Pirate's Cave

6/16/2001 6:23:31 AM

In a dark, dark cave
On a foggy beach
Right on the stroke of midnight
Voices I could hear and digging below
A band of pirates led by one I know
That darstardly pirate Blackbeard!

"Put ye backs in it ye lazy lot!"
Echoed words from the depths ........
"Ye dig like women!" he ranted and roared
"Ye'll be the death of me yet!"

I stopped and listened to his raucous words
Then crept along in the dark
I wanted to see these pirates of old
I always heard they were colorful and bold
But I got the shock of my life!

Ahead of me and just to the right
I saw an eerie sight
Blackbeard and his men were transparent to me
Ghosts digging for all eternity
Alive again in the night

I hid and I waited until it was quiet
Then I crawled from behind a rock
The ghosts had gone and I lit a torch
Searched and scraped and looked all around
Until I knew that I had found
The buried treasure spot

Janine, remember telling us out here in cyber-land about spinning a yarn? Here in the States, we have a similar tradition - ghost stories spun 'round the campfires. It's tradition to take turns around the fire when camping at night to tell a ghost story each. This would be great for a campfire story!

A Cry From My Heart

6/25/2000 12:57:20 PM

I've found the one I've been looking for all my life,
How I am when I'm with you feels just right,
Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined...a person such as you.
You say you love me...I sigh, I say, 'my sweet man I love you too!'

I'm crying..................

Oh my aching heart,
I know now it's not to be......
We're too far apart!

GOD give me the strength to see this through!
I must give back your heart...it belongs to you.
Temporarily I held you in my arms,
I close my eyes...
A tear slides down...onto my fevered cheek...
Oh, my heart is broken,
You see...I know that for you she has spoken!

I watch you my love,
Torn between two beating hearts,
Yes.... my sweet man,
I've known about her from the start.

We both believed love would find a way,
Our dreams were that we'd be together some day,
But when I see you ripped apart,
And trying to do what's right...it breaks my heart.
My darling one, the man of my dreams....
Please listen to me!
'I love you so much' and that is why ........I will set you free.

A Cry From My Heart - Re-written

7/24/2005

A Cry From My Heart
--------------------

Standing underneath the same moon
Remembering how we were this afternoon
And thinking of things that were left unsaid
Watching you walk away instead

I knew I'd found the one I'd been looking for all my life
And how I was when with you felt just right
Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined a person such as you
You said you love me, I sighed and said, 'my sweet man I love you too'

Now I'm crying..................

Oh my aching heart
I know now it could never be
We're too far apart

GOD give me the strength to see this through!
I gave back your heart, it belongs to you
Temporarily I held you in my arms
I closed my eyes
A tear slid down onto my fevered cheek
Oh, my heart was broken
You see..........
I knew that for you she had spoken

I watched you my love
Torn between two beating hearts
Yes my sweet man
I'd known about her from the start

We both believed love would find a way
Our dreams were that we'd be together some day
But when I saw you ripped apart
And trying to do what was right, it broke my heart
My darling one, the man of my dreams
Our love will always be there
Underneath the same moon
But it cannot be so please listen to me!

I love you so much and that is why ........
I set you free.

I re-wrote this poem and adapted it to fit the rules of a competition I am in.

It's purely fiction and doesn't apply to any situation in my life. When I posted it originally in here people were very kind and concerned for me and for this I say thankyou and that even though the situation wasn't real you cared enough to comfort me.

I must agree with Lori on this one Janine. It sounds as if you found someone wonderful, and trust me when I say, that losing someone like that, for whatever the reason is never easy. Harder still is it to write about something with so much passion. A good write. Then again, I have come to enjoy your works, you truly are a gifted person with words. Thanks for sharing.

Acrostic/Brushed Against My Soul

Acrostic/Brushed Against My Soul

08/10/2001

Before I met you I was a mere shadow of myself
Running from the nightmare of my past
Utterly bereft of all feelings
So lost and almost falling apart .....
How I would wish for a miracle
Each night before closing my eyes
Dreaming and longing for someone special in my life

After I met you something magic happened
Gaining back my spirit lost to me
All those hours we spent talking and laughing
Is the balm that I needed don't you see .....
Now I want to thank you one more time
Something I can't tell you enough
That you're the miracle who set me free

My life was changed forever when
You brushed against my soul .....

So strong is this feeling of oneness
Our lives are entwined forever more
Until we find each other again remember
Love I still believe ..... will conquer all

Janine,

This poem is so beautiful. It seems that love in all it's grandeur can
not be compared with, for nothing else we humans share can come close to
it's beauty. The idea with the first letters is neat. (Take a look at
the same in "Poet's Last Poem" sometime) - I've long felt like you're a
literary counterpart - it seems your writings always fill the voids that
I miss in my own. Maybe that's because we've shared our works in a
common area for several years now - do you realize it's been near five
years? Anyway, I think this poem is one of the most lovely that you've
written - someone should be proud of that!!

I found a lot of inspiration in this poem Janine, the end I think is what did it!

So strong is this feeling of oneness
Our lives are entwined forever more
Until we find each other again remember
Love I still believe ..... will conquer all

Seeing some good stuff from you lately deep that is! I still giggle over the hammock though! LOL

Janine, this is just wonderful, I had chills running up and down my arms just reading this, I thought I was reading about my life and you have summed it up to a tee. It is just beautiful and so subtle, but so much power in reading it. And yes I caught the first letter of each line, I thought that was awesome.

Once again reading Brushed Against My Soul was truly inspiring.

WOW!!! Janine thanks for pointing out your VERY creative little trick with the words!!

I love the one line you started out with,

QUOTE
Before I met you I was a mere shadow of myself

It just stuck out because I can relate to that one line!

The closing,

QUOTE
So strong is this feeling of oneness
Our lives are entwined forever more
Until we find each other again remember
Love I still believe ..... will conquer all

It still shows hope....good write here Janine very good!

God! Janine! this is deep.

I love this one line here,

QUOTE
My life was changed forever when
You brushed against my soul .....

The title alone catches the reader right away and pulls you in. Good writing here!

Nicely constructed acrostic.
Even nicer message. I remember all too well the search; the time when I was close to despair and the tremendous joy that came into my life when I found my love.

I enjoyed this. A lot.

Acrostic - A Cross Stick?

Acrostic - A Cross Stick?

07/22/2005

A poem where the first letter of every line
Creates a word reading down
Rather a clever way of doing it and
Often not immediately obvious but
Since a lot of people don't notice
This clever bit of brainery
It's still clever just the same now
Come and join me with this game

Acrostic!

Love

Little by little you break my heart in two
Only you hold the key
Viewing the depths of my inner soul
Eternally I live in misery by the word called "love"

That was not EASY! I thought I would give it a try! Great little excersice here Janine!

Charging forth ideas in mind
Like wise people here to find
All around
In their own way
Rhyming words
Each passing day

Lots of stories to be told
Of youth, the now & getting old
Understanding
Is the key
Saves our souls
Each of us free

What A Day I Have Had.

Who would have thought that I could be,
Here right now, writing these words.
A day like no other has befallen me.
Time had no meaning, it is quite absurd.

Any other day pale’s in comparison.

Don’t try this day at home,
A busy day as could be.
You’d be better off on the road to roam.

In no time at all I had no time.

How I managed, I shall never know.
Attitudes strained, personalities clashed.
Very little money, for the time do I show.
Even the chefs tempers seemed to crash.

Here I am though, as faithful as ever.
A little time that I use to write.
Doesn’t this seem a little too clever.

TIME TO SAY GOODBYE

True to others yet not ourselves
In a state of fear, confusion,
Much the same as when I were a child
Each day providing more insanity

Too much for one so young
Only too little for one needing saving

Summertime used to dance
A bright circle of light surrounding every dawn
Youth capturing its wonder

Guarding us from ourselves
Our souls slipping away
Our hopes dripping through our fingers
Draining like grains of sand
Breathe and the dust fills our lungs
Yet we continue to try
Even though we know its too late!

How do you make acrostics?
I will try, Janine, for you.

Just wait, and you will see
As I now mimic what you do.
No one teaches how a poet,
In a few lines, choice and terse,
(Not mentioning, the rhymes, of course,)
Ends up with such a verse.

Janine, don't laugh now at this try... rofl!

Wanda

With a smooth stroke of my pen
Acrostic fun doeth begin
Not enoungh time I now see
Drawing Mr. Tweedle Dee
And his treasured puss, Soo Lee

WHO'S NEXT TO GIVE THIS A TRY???

Guess I'm next.

Perhaps you'll find acrostics may
On some occasion make your day.
Each time you try you'll find it hard
To quit, for every noted bard
Resolves to demonstrate his skill.
You know you'll always get a thrill.

-----------------------------------------

Did you know that George Washington, better known as the Father Of Our Country, wrote acrostics?
The following is attributed to him:

From your bright sparkling Eyes I was undone;
Rays, you have; more transparent than the Sun,
Amidst its glory in the rising Day
None can you equal in your bright array;
Constant in your calm and unspotted Mind;
Equal to all, but will to none prove kind,
So knowing, seldome one so young you'll find.
Ah! woe's me, that I should love and conceal,
Long have I wished but never dared reveal,
Even though severely Love's Pains I feel.
Xerxes that great wasn't free from Cupid's dart,
And all the great Heroes felt the smart.
